Absolute Value

Calculating Absolute Value

Step 1: Press the MATH button located below the ALPHA key. Using the right arrow button, select the NUM menu.

Step 2: Note that 1:abs (command for absolute value) is already selected. Press ENTER. You will return to the home screen and "abs(" will be entered automatically.

Step 3: Enter the number. For example, -5. Then press ENTER. The result will appear on the right side of the screen.

Graphing an Absolute Value equation

Step 4: Press Y=. Then follow steps 1 thru 3 above.

For example, enter abs(x + 4).

The screen to the right will appear.

Then, adjust the window as needed and press GRAPH.
