Recall that 10 is the basis of Scientific Notation and logx is the logarithm that has a base of 10.
Enter 105 into the calculator. The base is 10 and the exponent is 5.
Step 1: Enter the base of 10. Press the yellow 2nd button, then 10x located in yellow above the LOG button (three buttons above ON).
Notice that 10, the karat ^, and the left parenthesis show up on screen.
Step 2: Enter the exponent. In this example, it would be 5
Step 3: Enter the right parenthesis.
Step 4: Press ENTER. The answer will show up on the right side of the screen.
Similarly we can evaluate a logarithm of base 10. For example, evaluate log(17)
Step 1: Enter log. Press the LOG button (three buttons above ON).
Notice that the log and the left parenthesis show up on screen.
Step 2: Enter 17, then enter the right parenthesis.
Step 3: Press ENTER. The answer will show up on the right side of the screen.
