Changing MODE |
The MODE key changes both how the calculator interprets what you input as well as what type of output it generates.
Step 1: Press the MODE key. It is located to the left of the yellow 2nd key.
The default for the calculator's MODE is everything listed on the left-hand-side of the calculator screen. However, quite often the mathematics that is required for us to do requires a different mode. Here are some of the options of the MODE function.
- Normal Sci Eng: This changes how a number is expressed -- either normally, in Scientific Notation, or Engineering mode.
- Float: This changes how many decimal places to which a number is rounded. "Float" means the calculator will not round; "0" means the calculator will round the number to the nearest whole number; "1" means the calculator will round the number to the first decimal place; "2" means the second decimal place, and so forth.
- Radian Degree: This is used in Trigonometry. This changes how angles are interpreting when entered in the calculator -- either Radians or Degrees.
- Func Par Pol Seq: This changes what type of equations are entered into the calculator. "Func" stands for function. "Par" stands for parametric equation. "Pol" stands for polar equations. "Seq" stands for recursive equations.
- Real a+bi re^0i: This changes what type of number you can enter into the calculator. "Real" stands for real number; "a + bi" stands for imaginary numbers.
Step 2: You will notice a black box--a cursor--blinking on your screen. Use the arrow keys to move the cursor so that it highlights the mode you want. For example, I will change from Func to Seq
Step 3: Once the cursor is blinking on the mode you want, press ENTER. Notice Seq is now highlighted
Step 4: Press the yellow 2nd key, then QUIT (in yellow above the MODE key) to return to the home screen.
