The reorganization of Academic Affairs
began last year with the consolidation of the divisions
of Arts and Sciences (DAS) and Career and Technical
Education (DCT). The Corporate and Community Training
Institute, which now embraces all continuing education
programs, was also included under Academic Affairs. The
positions of Vice President and Associate Vice President
for Academic Affairs were created at that time,
effectively replacing the DAS and DCT deans.
Subsequent reorganization of college academic
departments into divisions has altered their structure
in limited ways. The following areas remain essentially
unchanged:
- Biological and Physical Sciences
- Languages and Literature
- Fine Arts and Humanities
- Mathematics, Physics, and
Engineering
- Distance Learning and Faculty
Development (formerly the Innovative Teaching Center)
Changes have taken place in the
following areas:
- Health Sciences now includes all
that had been contained in the Nursing and
Health Technology Department (NUR), with the addition
of Medical Laboratory Technology and Medical
Transcription.
- Business and Technology now
includes all from the Business, Economics and
Legal Studies (BUS) and Technical and Industrial
Studies (TIS) departments.
- Social Sciences, Human Services and
Teacher Education (SOC) now includes all of the former
SOC areas plus Criminal Justice, Fire Science,
Emergency Services, and the credit portions of
Wellness, Fitness, and Sports.
As part of the reorganization into
academic divisions, a number of area and program
coordinators are being confirmed or established to
assist in the management of each division. |
